NetBeans Integrated Development Environment 6. 9 Unveiled
NetBeans Integrated Development
Environment (IDE) 6. 9, the first NetBeans
release under Oracle’s stewardship, introduces JavaFX Composer, a visual editor and
layout tool for building JavaFX applications.
With JavaFX Composer, organizations can
build, visually edit, and debug rich internet
applications and bind components to
various datasources, including database and
Web services. NetBeans IDE 6. 9 also offers
OSGi interoperability, enabling developers to
easily create OSGi bundles for applications
based on the NetBeans platform.
The new components in NetBeans IDE
6. 9 support accelerated JavaFX application
development. NetBeans IDE 6. 9 enables
developers to rapidly create Web, enterprise,
desktop, and mobile applications using Java
EE, JavaFX, and scripting languages.
“NetBeans 6. 9 continues the tradition of
providing the best open source IDE for Java
application developers,” says Ted Ferrell,
chief architect and senior vice president,
tools and middleware, at Oracle. “We believe
that the ease of use and developer productivity provided by NetBeans is key in helping
developers of any skill level take advantage of
all great Java technologies.”
MySQL Enterprise 2. 2 Now Available
Oracle has released MySQL Enterprise 2. 2,
which includes the latest MySQL open source
database, monitoring tools, and production
support. A key component of this release
is MySQL Enterprise Monitor 2. 2, which
provides organizations a means of more efficiently managing MySQL servers and helps
reduce downtime by identifying problems
before they become outages.
MySQL Enterprise Monitor delivers
enhanced query performance monitoring,
improved security, and integration with
MySQL Support. It also provides enhance-
ments for collecting, searching, and viewing
query performance data, allowing developers
to filter and analyze patterns that may hinder
key system resources. New features include
Query Analyzer Execution Notices, which
pinpoint problem
queries so that DBAs
and developers can
find and fix perfor-
mance problems,
and MySQL Enterprise Connector Plug-ins,
which allow users to gather and send SQL and
related performance data to the query ana-
lyzer. In addition, GUI-based tools continu-
ously monitor the MySQL database and help
developers implement MySQL best practices.
MySQL Enterprise also includes 24/7
production support, with guaranteed
response times to assist users in the devel-
opment, deployment, and management of
MySQL applications.
“DBAs and developers need solutions
that help them manage their MySQL servers
efficiently and allow them to identify performance issues before they become expensive,
time-consuming problems,” says Thomas
Ulin, director of MySQL development at
Oracle. “MySQL Enterprise 2. 2 offers powerful tools for query performance monitoring, improved security, and an enhanced
administration experience—all of which help
alleviate many common pain points DBAs
and developers face.”
Oracle Coherence 3. 6 Ships
Oracle Coherence 3. 6, the latest release of
Oracle’s distributed in-memory data grid
product, is now available. Part of Oracle
Fusion Middleware 11 g, Oracle Coherence
3. 6 is a critical component of application grid
and private cloud deployments.
Oracle Coherence 3. 6 introduces Coherence
Quorum, a feature that enables greater control
of capacity and resource management in grid
and cloud environments. It also introduces
Coherence Query Language, a SQL-like query
language that lets developers use query syntax
to manage and use Oracle Coherence.
Another new feature is the Oracle
Coherence 3. 6 Session Provider for the
Microsoft . NE T Framework, which supports
session management for Microsoft .NET
Framework–based applications.
“With greater data scalability, reliability,
performance, and security, Oracle Coherence
continues to set the benchmark for distributed in-memory data grid products,” says
Cameron Purdy, vice president of development at Oracle.
Agile Customer Needs Management Unveiled
Oracle has introduced Agile Customer Needs
Management, part of Oracle’s product value
chain suite, to manage and automate the
front-end innovation process. The product
helps customers to capture and prioritize
product ideas, customer feedback, and
product requirements from internal and
external sources.
“We are broadening our product value
chain leadership with the launch of Agile
Customer Needs Management, allowing
companies to effectively manage creative
ideas and customer requirements that
will generate the most value for their R&D
investment,” says Hardeep Gulati, vice presi-
dent of product lifecycle management and
product information management product
strategy at Oracle.
Oracle Application Express
Release 4.0 Available
Oracle has released Oracle Application Express
4.0, its rapid Web application development
tool for Oracle Database. The latest release
helps reduce the time and complexity of
building Web 2.0 applications and reports.
New features of Oracle Application
Express 4.0 include Dynamic Actions, which
make implementing client-side and interactive functionality declarative; Plug-Ins, which
allow the Oracle Application Express framework to be readily extended with custom
item types, application processes, and
dynamic actions; and RESTful Web Services,
which provide an alternative to SOAP.
“When Oracle Application Express was
first introduced six years ago, the goal was to
simplify the development of fast, secure Web
applications for Oracle Database,” says Mike
Hichwa, vice president of software development at Oracle. ”Oracle Application Express
4.0 extends that vision with new capabilities
that significantly reduce the time and complexity of developing database-centric
Web applications.”
