Oracle Improves Unified Storage Systems Product Line
Oracle has announced significant upgrades
to the Sun Storage 7000 Unified Storage
Systems product line. The enhancements
include built-in inline data deduplica-tion that can be combined with inline data
compression, 4 and 8 Gb/sec Fibre Channel
protocol support, multiple storage pools, and
new 1 and 2 TB SAS disk drives—doubling
maximum system capacity to 576 TB.
These features will help customers dra-
matically reduce the costs of storing, consol-
idating, and managing data with increased
storage efficiency; expand the use of the
Sun Storage 7000 product line into Fibre
storage administrators to quickly locate
and manage SAN workload hotspots and
bottlenecks, understand how configuration
and application changes affect the storage
system, and provision Flash storage capabili-
ties without guesswork.
The Sun Storage 7000 product line is
engineered for and supported with Oracle
Solaris, Oracle Enterprise Linux, Oracle
Database, Oracle Applications, Oracle Fusion
Middleware, and Sun system software prod-
ucts, as well as third-party products.

Oracle Buys Database Firewall
Provider Secerno
Oracle has agreed to acquire Secerno, a
provider of database firewall solutions for
Oracle and non-Oracle databases. Secerno’s
solution provides a critical defensive layer of
security around databases that blocks unauthorized activity in real time.
The combination of Oracle and Secerno
underscores Oracle’s commitment to providing customers with the most comprehensive and advanced security offering that helps
reduce the costs and complexity of securing
their information throughout the enterprise.
“The Secerno acquisition is in direct
response to increasing customer challenges
around mitigating database security risk,”
says Andy Mendelsohn, senior vice president,
database server technologies, at Oracle.
“Secerno’s database firewall product acts as
a first line of defense against external threats
and unauthorized internal access with a
protective perimeter around Oracle and non-Oracle databases. Together, Oracle’s complete set of database security solutions and
Secerno’s technology will provide customers
with the ability to safeguard their critical

Channel storage area networks (SANs); and
improve overall capacity and availability.
Oracle is the first storage vendor to bring
the power of advanced DTrace Analytics to
Fibre Channel SANs. Storage analytics enable
Oracle Buys Prepaid Software Assets from eServeGlobal
Oracle has entered into an agreement to
purchase certain prepaid billing assets of
eServGlobal. eServGlobal’s Universal Service
Platform applications include a scalable
prepaid charging application, a network-services platform, and a messaging gateway.
The combination of Oracle Communica-
tions Billing and Revenue Management and
the Universal Service Platform is expected
to accelerate the shift from network- to IT-
based prepaid systems by providing a con-
vergent, open IT-based platform.
“Oracle Communications applications
combined with the prepaid software assets
from eServeGlobal will provide our customers
with highly available and scalable carrier-
grade, prepaid software on an open, conver-
gent platform,” says Liam Maxwell, vice presi-
dent of products, Oracle Communications.
“This will enable our customers to deliver
traditional prepaid voice services and easily
introduce hybrid prepaid and postpaid plans.”
